Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

Okay, I put a meter on the glow plug circuit this afternoon and can tell you that on my tractor when the lamp goes out, the glows plugs de-energize also. So I decided to just cycle through four glow plug warm ups and then start the tractor and it started with almost no smoke at all. In fact, it was hard to see any. So it is a glow plug operation issue like I suspected. I have no idea if the timer for the glow plug operation is adjustable or not. Now that I know what the problem is, I can ask at the dealer the next time I'm there.

I didn't check to see whether the glow plugs ever come back on after the engine starts (cold engine), but I very much doubt that they do.

Andy, the hydraulic system on the Boomers works slightly different from your 2120 if it only has powered dump. My description of the regenerative dump was not clear, but the compacts have the normal hydraulic flow from the pump, but the flow from the rod side of the cylinder is allowed to mix with the flow from the pump directly through the control valve. I suppose if the valve is working wrong, the fluid pressure from the pump could be felt equally on both the retract and dump sides of the the cylinder. This might be due to the control valve spool being stiff when it's new or some foreign material keeping it from going to the full regenerative position. I'm attaching the Repair Manual illustration that shows the regenerative dump system along with a description of the operation.

There are no two engines built alike. They may be close but they will never run identical. When cold most diesels will tend to smoke for a second or two.

I have a tc40d with about 150 hours on it and a lot of those are FEL work. What is this slow and fast (quick) dump ya'll are talking about? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

On my TC25D, the FEL control has 2 positions to the right. The first position is the slow bucket dump. Push the lever the whole way to the right for the fast bucket dump.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

Steve, are you familiar with the "float" position of your loader joystick when you move it fully forward? If you move the joystick to the right, you have a similar indent for the fast regenerative dump which is faster than the normal power dump. If you look at my last post above and check out the attachment, you can see exactly how the fast dump works. What happens is the flow from the rod side of the cylinder, that would be returned to the reservoir under normal conditions, is allowed to mix with the pressurized fluid in the control valve. This combined flow allows the bucket to dump at a faster rate than only with pressurized fluid from the pump.

The next time you are operating your loader, raise it up to about 5' high and curl the bucket up. Raise the engine's rpm to about 2000, then move the handle to the right, but not past the indent. Check out how fast the bucket dumps. Curl the bucket again and then force the joystick all the way to the right as far as it will go. You should see the bucket dump noticeably faster than with the previous method. You can easily see this with an empty bucket, but the dump can be even quicker with a full load (the NH spec. says it's 1.9 seconds to the full dump position). You 16LA operators manual also explains this operation on page 15.
