I never gave it any thought till reading this thread.
I have a 6' wide by 8' long tilt bed trailer I tow with a Dodge D50 pick up.
Just buying 2 BX1500 tractors - wonder if this trailer would handle a BX 1500 without a FEL or rear attachment?

It would help to know what the rating is on your trailer?

In the past, I've done a ton of heavy equipment hauling using 'proper' trailers and tow vehicles... now I'm on my own.

My tow vehicle is rated for 3500 lbs. and I've installed a Class II hitch.

I'm looking at 5x8 steel tilt-bed utility trailers with single axles and no brakes.

My question is whether I can get by with this set-up to tow a bx1500 w/o loader to friend's houses at speeds no higher than 35mph.

I'm well within the rating, but the lack of trailer brakes causes me real concern - and I can't find a smaller sized trailer that has available brakes.

Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks.

I have a 16' trailer, rated at 5000lbs which I used to pull my former tractor; an L2800 with loader and shredder. I never found this to be a problem. I towed it at highway speeds, and while it would not stop on a dime, it handled very well. Of course, the fact that I have a 2500HD Chevy may have something to do with that.

I'm presently looking at a 20' trailer (no brakes) for my 4740. I won't haul it far, nor fast, but according to the manufacturer it should do a good job.

You might check with your state DMV on this one as a trailer that size and capacity may require brakes? The cost of brake axles is only a little more than the cost of trailer axles. The truck wiring is not real expensive but I suspect you would be paid back a good bit on resale and a whole lot on pease of mind.

I have no idea as it's a home made one.

1) Scary.

2) Weight rating of the tires will give a clue...at least where the tires will blow out...if the structure would make it would be anyone's guess.
