Around here they put perforated pipe (like used in a septic field) in the spring then go to a collection cistern then plastic 2" pipe from cistern to second cistern for cattle to drink from. excess water from the second is piped elseware as needed.

Hi Frank,

At first, I thought what a lucky guy, but since it's not what you want, then it's a probelm.

I'm assuming your land is red clay just like mine. If so, you can always dig out the spring, then re-fill it with the clay and ompact it. Two feet would be sufficient.

Of course, the spring might find another spot to come out and you could be chasing your tail on this for years, or it might work.

My other idea is to get a large diamater pipe. Put it on edge and bury it in the ground around your spring. Let it fill up and put a tap on the side of the pipe.

I'm guessing the water will only rise so far, and then equal out. Sealing it might be tricky around the bottom, but clay is good for that, and if it leaks a little, thats alright.

It could be a tank for the cows, or just a place to wash your hands and cool off.

Well what I would do and what my grandparents did many many years ago was to dig out around where the water is bubbling to the surface and get yourself a couple of concrete well rings and put them in the ground around the spring. You will then essentially have a spring fed well. you can install a runoff pipe in the side of the top concrete ring and run the water to another shallower well ring or into a creek or a pond. You can then hook up a pump witha checkvalve and use it for watering or even drinking water if it is a good spring.
