J2020H Turns on, turns off when is released

1. This J2020H Tractor I bought in 2013 is not a power house but does what I need on a sandy soil 30 acres.

2. First the problem began with turning the ignition key on and it wouldn't start.

3. One day out of frustration I turned the key on and off about four times and it started. I was able to use the tractor.

4. The next day when I turned the ignition key to START it started the engine but as soon as I let loose the key the engine shut off.

5. At this point I assumed it was a faulty ignition switch so I ordered and replaced the ignition switch with a new LS J2020H switch. Exact same switch.

6. The new switch didn't solve the problem. Still when I turn the key to START position it will start. If I keep the key in START position the engine continues to run. But as soon as I let go the key the engine shuts off. If I hold the key on START the engine continues to run.

Have you checked the wiring? dirty connections
or grounded wire? solenoid OK? can you jump the
solenoid to see if it will crank?

Starter relay perhaps.. Have a wiring schematic so you can trace it out and see what/if relays are suppose to engage?

On mine, anytime mine wouldn't crank- it was a finicky PTO switch.
