Jack of all trades....

/ Jack of all trades.... #11
Been stuck working in the 24/7/365 world olmost all my life...still waiting for an undisturbed vacation.

Loading trucks by hand out of HS.

Graduated to working in a hospital ER as an orderly....is there such a thing as an orderly anymore?

Became a paramedic and 12 years latter seen it all, done it all and tired of working 72 hrs a week for 12 yrs., moved into EMS/Patient Tansportation management. Did a couple of turn key start-ups.

Not smart enough to get out of 24/7 went to taxi/black car/bus and limo transportation. VP now with too many responsibilities to list. 1500 vehicles and 3000 people don't allow much sleep, time on the tractor, or time away from the ball and chain cell phone.

Have loved every minute.

Regards,
Kevin

1) Worked for the local farmer down the road on and of from the time I was 11 until about 14. Loaded trucks, picked tomotos, dug mums hoed rows, etc.
$1/hr. was never so fun /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

2) While still in high school, got a job as an electronic technician at a local company that made semiconductor equipment (die-attach machines). Fun, learned a lot, they treated me good, let me work whenever. Stayed there until my junior year in college.

3) Worked with my father as a draftsman/electrician for about a year and a half. Worked on industrial fume incinerators. Now that my father is gone, I'm glad I had this oppurtunity

4) (First full time job) Worked at a tool and die company that made custom equipment for Big Blue. Worked there for 9 years, went down with the ship /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Did the control systems, learn about PLCs, servos, vision systems, and a bunch of cool mechanisms. Love the job, people, and the location was 5 minutes from home. Still freinds with several of the people I met there.

5)Electrical engineer at an industrial kiln company. Start to work on bigger stuff here. Worked there for almost five years until a Mexican company bought it and move everything to Monterrey. I actually left before they moved this time.

6) Electrical engineer at a small company that made automated welding equipment. Basically, we would take a welding robot and build automated fixtures around it. Fun, but things got slow and I got another offer that I couldn't refuse.

6) Manager, Electrical Design Engineer- at a large pharmacuetical corporation (think Lance Armstong /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif) Current postion. A lot more money, benefits, travel, politics, paperwork, etc. Still, really enjoy the job and the people.
Best job so far.

When reflecting on a stressful event with coworkers (scientists get mad when their power go off), we always say "at least no one is shootin' at us" to put things in perspective.

Grew up on a farm.

Worked in a grocery store while going to high school, working a newspaper and working for local farmers, sometimes all at the same time during the summers.

During college worked for another grocery store and as a hotel clerk and night auditor.

Worked for an electrical company as a plant accountant. Worked for an accounting firm doing taxes. Did a couple of years working out of the house as a self employed CPA.

Was in the motorcycle business selling various brands of motorcycles, snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles.

After a greedy majority partner forced me out of the motorcycle business, started doing some commercial rentals and some day trading.

A year ago became somewhat of a farmer doing the farmers market with a 40 acre garden.

Between the rentals and the day trading, had a shop put up with just the shell and the cement. My son and I finished the rest, including the interior walls, flooring, plumbing and electrical, none of which I knew nothing about before starting. With all of this work and other things going on, who has time for a job?

So I have become a jack of all trades, but master of none. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Alan,

( 4.) U.S. Navy 20 years. Mostly chasing submarines from a P-3C aircraft and other related jobs. Great job!)

A lifelong friend of mine was a Spook & evidently flew in some of the same planes... hmmm...

Michael K. Lakes ring any bell by some outlandish stroke of luck? (not that I expect it to)
