Japaneese (sp?) beetle problem, help please

New house at the end of this past March.

Have 7acres surrounding the house with various trees.

Just came across a somewhat serious problem with Japaneese beetles on two trees by the house (keep in mind, there are about 25 trees on the immediate 7acres around the house).

Used some "sevin dust" on one tree with success, and put out a couple of "beetle bag traps" which seem to be working to an extent.

This could be the tip of other issues with "bugs" pertaining to my trees.

I have no clue as to what insectisides (sp?) I may want to look at in the future.

I was thinking about getting a spayer from Northern Tool (like the 16 gallon for for $116), I could "mount it" in the back of my pickup and perhaps do "preventitive maintence" on the trees pertaining to insects.

I do have 3 dogs that I let run around the property which I am concerned about (for apparent reasons with any type of insecticide).

Any suggestions on:

type of spayer?
type of insecticides?
when to spray the trees?

Any info from knowledge/past experiences would be of great help.

If the sevin worked, get some water soluble sevin. It works good and you can use it with the sprayer that your speaking of.

Understand first where they come from. Dig under your sod, you will likely find white grubs in the spring, those grubs mature into Japanese Beetles. If they have a blackish head, then they mature in brown Chafer Beetles. Both can be very easily controlled organically by spraying Milky Spore onto the grass. No need to worry about the dogs or kids getting sick from Milky Spore. However, that doesn't help you right now. It will help you for next year.

For now, liquid Sevin should do the trick, sprayed wherever and whenever you see them. But it is toxic, use it with care.

Japanese beetles are only attracted to some plants. You may be able to control them this year without mass spraying.

Also understand that the hormone traps can attact them to your property so be cautious with those traps.

I didn't realize that "sevin" came in a soluble form (other advice lead to the "sevin", for my other house on the market that had a "below ground" yellow jacket "issue").

You might try contacting your local conservation district. They're usually pretty familiar with local problems of this type. Good Luck!

I had a bad Japanese beetle infestation on a linden tree for several years. Liquid sevin did the trick. If I wasn't fast enough getting to it, the beetles would turn the leaves into brown lace in short order. The tree is still healthy after the beetles and the spray......................chim

I would not worry about the sevin on the dogs, some use it for flea powder on dogs. Does not seem to hurt them. I wouldn't overdo it on dogs though.
