Are you in for a shock, I have the clutch set for my 850 in my JD shopping basket just to check the price $2538.80 not includind the bearings. I watched it go up over the 5 years thats riduculous for a clutch. here is the line item.

Whoa... that's not even reasonable... WTH..? :confused: With some luck, there might be an "aftermarket" kit and you won't have to buy a new kit from "mother Deere".

I told my neighbor if the clutch goes so does the tractor. There was a someone on e-bay with remanufactured clutches, the price was not too bad I saw it on the 850 listing.

Here's my plan, split the tractor, dis-assemble the clutch, measure the wear disc's, inspect the pressure plates for flatness and overheating etc, and if I can get by with just a trans disc that's what I will do. (Given what it looks like now, I think that is were I'm headed) I have a local dealer that specializes in clutch work and I have had great luck getting clutch discs for a number of vehicles, trucks, tractors etc at VERY reasonable prices (parts only). So that's my initial plan.

A couple of suggestions - 1.) New throwout bearing. Cheap and one of those things that can/do wear out before the rest of the clutch/pressure plate assembly.

2.) See if your transmission shop can resurface the pressure plates (oh yah, the flywheel, too). Likely be some warpage and maybe even a "blue spot" or two. If there is; the new clutch discs will grab and you'll have uneven wearing and a shorter clutch life.

50 Series John Deere CUT's had issues with the clutches sticking after non usage periods. As there have been enough comments on "how to attempt to unstick them, I won't add anything new there.

What I can recommend is during long non use periods, depress the clutch pedal and retain it there, otherwise the same problem will reoccur.

When JD went to the 70 Series they corrected the problem and vented the bell housing.

Hi All, I had a JD2510 with a dual stage clutch and yes it was froze, After trying to free it from below thru acess hole I pulled the starter and there was a balance hole in the flywheel about .75" and I could see the clutch plate so I tapped it a couple of time with a screw driver being careful not to damage it and bingo she came loose. I did try all the other ways mentioned, rocking , pulling but nothing worked. Only pulling the starter. Hope this helps others. Yes I let it slip alittle later to polish off the rust. Works great now.
