Planters JD 1240 Planter

Hi all

Father in law called earlier and he was helping a guy with a 1240 JD planter but they couldnt get the planter to drop any seed. Any one have any ideas what they might have been doing wrong? I have never seen the planter myself and am not much of a farmer either. Any help would be appreciatted. Thanks

talked to him again a little bit ago and he said the rear chains were not turning. Anyone have any ideas why these wouldnt be turning?? He said the fertilizer was dropping just fine but not seed dropping at all. Thanks

Probably a pin holding the chain gearing on a bar is broken.. missing.
