JD 145 Won't start - Electrical issue

Alright, so I adjusted the lash and it didn't help. It's definitely an electrical problem. I can rotate the engine by hand, but when I turn the key now, I am not even getting the solenoid to go. Lights won't even come on. Guess I'll drag it to the dealer...

You can fix this. If the solenoid does not click, is voltage being applied to its coil? If so and no click and no contact thru it, replace solenoid. The solenoid often is damaged from the extreme loads placed on the starter motor from the valves being out of adjustment..The extreme currents fry the solenoid. If there is not voltage on the solenoid coil, check the key switch/fuse. You can fix this. I am assuming you have a volt/ohm meter and know how to use it.

Turned out that some corrosion had crept into the battery cables and was causing high impedance. That coupled with the valve lash problem was the culprit. Some new battery cables and valve adjustment by the pro's and I am back in business.
