Just bought it
Rear lift and steering go out after about 10 minutes of use. When machine and oil get up to operating temp.
Checked the pick up screen, found none- can see right through. BTW, used a cold chisel to start plugs open. Used chanel locks to tighten back up.
First question-how bad is it to leave this out.
BTW, I opened this and also removed filter canister without draining oil by hooking a vacuum (full suction) to filler hole.
So, I have ordered a new front pump. Should be here tomorrow.
In the meantime, (after reading anothers forum post) I will check the valve that seems easy enough to get to on top of the pump for debri.
Does anyone have any thoughts on any of this or about the removal of items to get to the front pump?

Thanks!
Gary

Stop right there . Why not trouble shoot first ?Why blow a huge wad of cash on a front pump that works? The problem is the rear transmission pump is not pushing oil to the front pump. Or there is a leak on the high pressure side such as failing power steering or if somebody added an open center valve to the hydraulic system.
Get 5gpm to the front pump before you ever look up front for problems . Actually the elastomer shock absorber in the front pump drive is probably the origional and due for a change.
Anything in the tranmission oil filter? Why not order a tranmission screen? Missing parts looks like somebody abused the tractor then dumped it on an unsuspecting purchaser.
Lost o'rings have been known to travel up and plug the transmission relief or divert valves . Are the brakes grabby? A loader or anything hydraulic added to the tractor?
This would also be the time to obtain the test strips that check for corrosion inhibitor in the engine coolant. The sleeves will pit through with cavitation if old antifreeze is used .

It was bought at an Auction in NC, and then resold to me. It was painted by the new buyer.
Not even sure, at this point< where the power steering system is to think whether it may failing.
I did not note any spraying fluid when inspecting in the filler hole.
If the elastomer shock absorber in the front pump drive is the coupling device- it seems to be in good shape.
When checking the tranny oil filter, my first thought was that it was brand new, but after thinking about it, i guess it would look brand new even if it was old and full. Seems I read since, that a person has to cut it open to really examine it.The brakes are not grabby. You do have to pump them a couple of times to make them work.
No loader.Where are the transmission relief and divert valves.
I bought a JD this time because I thought they would be easier to work on than the MF that I have had in the past. IE pump outside of case. But now Im understanding I may have to remove rockshaft cover or crack the case in this one too :( (to get to an inside pump?)
What is a way of troubleshooting? I do see the resouvoir mounted on top of the pump. is there something I can tell from that?
Again, Everything works just fine for about 10 minutes and then the rear lift and the power steering rapidly lose function. Sometines, if I let it idle, the lift might move up a bit. Other times, if I rev it up, the lift might move up a bit.
There are two steel iles on right side of tractor that have hose connectors. Im guessing these are low pressure hoses. Does one of them provide the front pump? Which one?
Couldnt I crack the connection to see if there is 5 GPM there, that way?

Ditto what other posters stated. Perform some hyd diagnostics before replacing frt hyd pump. Many frt pumps have been replaced only to find out that the pump removed was not BAD.

Should be a low pressure line from transmission to front pump inlet. Then the same low pressure line continues up to the cooler and sometimes a reservoir tank. When Transmission supply exceeds front pump demand the extra oil flows theough the cooler, to the tank and then back to the transmission case . The 3rd line is 2250psi down the right side of the tractor to the PS, priority valve, rockshaft supply and SCV supply.
The free parts book on the JD web site shows the location of the valves. The service manual shows the test ports and what the pressure should be and when.
Is the pto live via a two stage clutch pedal or independent hydraulic lever activated ?
