After replacing the hydraulic steering ram and changing all the filters I hooked up my brush mower and discovered the rear PTO will not turn on. The fluid sight-glass in the rear shows appropriate level and the bucket/steering work fine. Checked the PTO selector lever (to the left of the seat) and it is all the way back for the rear PTO. When you pull up on the yellow PTO knob on the dash you can hear/feel something start spinning but the PTO output shaft does not move. The output shaft spins freely by hand and I don't remember it doing that before.

Any ideas on what to check?

Make sure you check you PTO shifter. I had the same problem and found my PTO shifter came loose from the transmission. The bolt holding it in place had broken and I had to drill thru the frame to get access (I didn't want to split the tractor). Removed the rest of the bolt. I then replaced to with a harden steel bolt with a hex head. Fixed the problem. But was a pain in the ---.

Works like a champ now.

There is normal amount of resistance as you pull the PTO lever between the three positions and an audible click as it goes into place. It feels like it is working properly. Was yours behaving normally or was there slop in the lever?
