JD 2210 vs Kubota

The issue of a tach is a non-issue in my opinion. On a larger ag style tractor definitely, on a subcompact no way.

I have heard that the Kubota BX owners manual recommends staying at or below 75% engine speed for the first 50 hours. How can you follow this recommendation if you don't have a tach?

Okay, Did not mean to start any wars! I think both are capable and good machines. Each one is different. Each person will make there choice depending on which features they like.

I agree, both should have tach and temp gauge.

Try this, post this the same way in the Kubota buying pricing and see what you get. Everyone (most everyone) will tell you the tractor they have (me included) is the one they should get.

Go to both dealers. Test ride/operate both. Go with the one you like and the dealer you feel will be the most helpfull later down the road. If you plan on keepeing the thing, it will need work at some point, no matter what you get.

Great point, i.e. "...the one I have is the one for me" principle.

In our case(s), the dealer's attitude and product availability probably played as big a role as anything.

I remember waxing the hood of my MTD about 10 years ago when I only had an acre--thinking I was the "Yard King" of the block. I also remember guys in high school bragging about their AMC Matadors and Pacers as "chick magnets." /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I agree with the BX 3-point limitations. I can live with the smaller arm spread, I just point the implement lift pins inward if required. The lift height is still a problem though, although I think it only impacts a PHD. It hasn't been an issue with my hog or BB.

Hey, you left out the Hornet, Vega, Pinto and the Gremlin. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the JD2210. I looked at both and it is my understanding that some claim the 2210 is a BX clone. I did not care for the BX as it just did not fit me physically as well as the jd. The metal Vs Plastic hood was a non-issue to me. I did not like that the BX does not come with a tach but you could always add one. They were both priced about the same. The Jd has a two piece garden tractor style frame Vs the more solidly built ladder type frame on The Bx. Kubota offers a 3 year warranty Vs JD with a 2 year deal. The only right decision is the one that fits you best. Give them both a test drive. You will most likely have a tougher time finding a dealer that you like than decideing which one is best for you.

DocsKnotInn, I first saw a BX2200 when my neighbor showed up one day mowing his pasture area. From my vantage, it looked like nothing more then a riding mower, you know, mid mower, little tires, no loader and the size was roughly the same. Then I saw it again with a loader, then with a 3 pt hitch mounted chipper shredder. It seemed to do most things a "real" tractor did, just in ultra compact chunks. Now of course I know better, it's simply a sub compact. The usefulness of it seems super and just the ticket for him. I knew it was only a matter of time before others would be making them as well. As with the new 4X10 series from JD, I'm sure the 2210 must be a well made sub compact as well.

I have nothing but good things to say about this little sub compact. I do not mow but it sure would fit the ticket nicely for someone who needs to mow and do other chores. If I had my way I would take features from both the JD and the Kubota. Kioti is makeing a strong showing and I expect we will see a sub compact from them in the near future. The two draw backs on the 2210 are no rockshaft adjustment. It is either up or down. Also the light weight means you loose traction before power but it is very hard to complain after working in the woods by hand for years I am all smiles everytime I take it out.

"it is very hard to complain after working in the woods by hand for years I am all smiles everytime I take it out."

Isn't that the truth. I remember digging sprinkler trenches with a square nose shovel. Then we got a maddox to chop through the roots and pick the hard stuff. That was nice. Then we went all out and rented a DitchWitch trencher with a Wisconsin motor and a crank wheel to raise or lower the digging bar. The pick and shovel were dead. Never again. Then we rented a hydraulic walk behind with carbide teeth, those old manual raise lower units were history, never again. Eventually we got a ride on trencher, doing the sides of hills was a piece of cake. Those hydraulic walk behinds for hillsides were history. I'm still waiting for the new laser sit in your chair and drink beer trenchers, they are bound to be out soon. I should think the small sub compacts would be huge, of course, they must be as the Kubota section has many, many, many, posts about the BX.
