jD 2240 with busted differential lock?

My guess is spring is broken allowing pedal(key 14) to drop engaging diff lock when not needed. Normal problem is shaft(key 3) gets rusted tight in axle housing.

You have to pull the left axle assembly, not split the tractor to access the differential lock.

Good point zebrafive on no split required to repair.

Bought my tractor from someone who never used the diff lock or the foot throttle for 26 years because his 520JD did not have them. It took weeks of spraying and tapping to work the diff lock lever loose.

Dang.. I ran from the deal figuring it was a likely repair bigger and more $$ than I wanted to take on! Pulling the final left drive would be a whole lot easier (and cheaper) than a split and dismantle of the differential, etc.

Woulda been a handy little backup tractor running my JD 336 square baler!

Live and learn... Live and learn.

We've all done that!!!!!

I'm betting the spring was broke, thus the wooden block. A tarp strap would have done the same thing. :)
