Well... the pounds of tension at the twine disc or wire disc is likely to be quite a bit higher than the 70-100lbs for the twine baler. That would merit the use of a roller in the needles to 1.) counter the increased wear that the wire would create 2.) better ease the movement of the wire into the knotter assembly.
One possible issue that I could imagine using twine with the roller-needles would be the lower tension on the twine might allow the twine to "wander" side to side, outside of the roller face and pinching between the roller and the side of the needle. Might bind and/or fray the twine.
