JD 2520 glow plugs

I just got a new 2520. It's advertised as direct injection. My machine has a glow plug light on the dash when the key is turned on. My dealer says they "must have added glow plugs because the last two machines we got have these lights." Does he know what he's talking about? I thought direct injection machines don't have glow plugs. I'm not sure why they don't need them but I've been told they don't. I bet someone here knows the answer.

There is a pre-heater grid on the intake side I believe-no glo-plugs. And it also appears that the light is a new addition, read THIS post...

I called JD customer support. They said I need to call my dealer. I called a different dealer. He claimed that the light was on all 2520's and it was for a pre-heater. He said that even though the light is not on all machines the pre-heater is standard equipment. It is listed in the specs as a "cold weather starting aid". He said that it stayed on for 10 seconds when you turned the key on or you could force it to stay on longer by turning the key to "start" while in gear. I haven't tried it yet. Obviously the light is not on all 2520's since even my manual doesn't have it listed. That makes we wonder if the pre-heater is on all machines or just those with the light.

Just to add a little more confusion, I was browsing the 2520 shop manual section on diagnosing problems with the intake air heater system. It goes through the steps to find out whether or not you are getting power to the intake air heater and at the end of the section, it says something to the effect "...if it is found that there is power to the intake air heater, but it is still not functioning, change the glow plugs...". This leads me to believe that there is one or more glow plugs mounted in the intake air heating unit.

So, maybe the 2520 has glow plugs after all, just not in the traditional location?
