JD 2720
Hi everyone -

I'm new to the forum so I'm just getting my feet wet here. I just got my new JD 2720 yesterday and I plan on purchasing the Wallenstein BX42 PTO chipper some time later this spring. I would have liked to buy it with the tractor and have it all fitted and delivered together but they couldn't put the chipper on with the 0% financing so it's going to have to wait a few months. I have the JD Quick Hitch attachment already on the tractor and I was wondering if anyone knows if I'll need to have the chipper's drive shaft shortened. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I run a BX32 on my 2720 with the Imatch and the supplied PTO shaft works and fits fine.

I doubt you will need to shorten it. I didn't need to for the BX 42 used with my B2920.

When you get your chipper there is a good set of instructions provided.

I have a BX42 on a Kioti CK 30 w/ JD I-match. Had to get an extension shaft to put on the tractor PTO.
My chipper is for sale if interested, used very little. Is red. Only thing is I'm in IN.

Have a question for you ,I also have a 2720 about 3 year old, how many bends do your lift arms have for your 3 point hitch? Mine has 5 I believe and not the normal 2 like most tractors .

I have the Wallenstein BX42 also. I put it on a Kubota BX2200 and L3800. When mounting on the BX2200 I have to connect the PTO first and then back up a little more to get the lifting arms on. So the BX42 shaft is about an 1/8" too long. When I lift the unit the PTO does not bind. It works well on both tractors but of course I prefer the Kubota L3800 for the extra power. Even with the little BX2200 nothing stops the BX42 except a knot just over the 4" size. One time I did not notice a rusty 3/8" x 8" piece of steel rod mixed in with some branch's until I saw it in the hopper. I fought off the urge to reach in so the rod stalled the tractor and was stopped by the twig breaker. I could not find a dent in any of the chipper blades. Hope my exciting little experience lets you know that you would be purchasing a very tough chipper. It took me about a year to realize I did not really need the BX62.
One other interesting thing is that freshly cut limbs with green leaves go right through with no problems like fresh crisp salad, but if the leaves are allowed to dry, then they will plug up the chute.

Here's a photo of one of the lift arms.

Thanks for the photo, that looks just like mine , I don't have the I-Match on mine, but I do have a rubbing problem with those the lift arms on the tires. There are some threads here that talk about it and some have been succeful on getting them replaced , but I have not . Otherwise it does seem to be a nice tractor, thanks for the photos and your time.
