JD 3005 full cage ROPS/FOPS build

Hey, watch that pretty new paint!
That should be real handy! I made a spot vertically on the front post to carry a "pinch bar" kinda like a small digging bar. It's handy for hooking up the heavier 3 pt. implements and in general, a handy lever to have with you. It's hard to see as it's painted to match the tractor. I am amazed how handy the mirror I put on the other front post is also.

Paint not so pretty right there, almost covers up one of the most noticeable thin spots where you can see primer thru the green.

I had one on each side before the cage install, need another set of brackets for the second one.

I had to use the tractor this evening to unload a log winch off the trailer, missed my lights. So I dug out the ones I had cobbled together on my old plywood top, and stuck them on... for now. Only to find out one is now not working, seems it went bad sitting on the shelf for the past few months. Darn stone age incandescent bulbs anyways. What I really want is a nice new set of LED's to put in there.

I got my chainsaw scabbard relocated today. Trimmed it down, drilled a few new holes for the u-bolts, and it should be ok.

Nice. Should be out of harms way and easy to access.

Been nice having limb risers and the rest of the cage around me during the work I've done in the woods in the past few weeks. But as expected, I was cussin when I put fuel in the tractor the other day, out of a 5 gallon can. Was hard enough before, with the cage 'legs' in the way, only more so. Better get that fuel drum with pump and hose set up.

Looks Good Greg!

I had similar concerns when working in the woods, mainly fearing a branch falling on my head, or the tractor tipping against a tree, and the tree trunk sliding down my side of the rops while I was buckled in.

I made what I called at the time a "Head Protector" and added a "hood protector." Used expanded metal over the top of the framework, as a solid surface reflected too much engine noise down at me. In summer I cover it with a piece of cloth to keep the sun off. The cloth seems to absorb noise.

I narrowed the top in the front and tilted it downwards to deflect limbs. Did not think to add limb lift pieces like you did, but do not really have a need for them on our place.

The cover over the hood has saved hood damage many times. It also allows me to easily climb up on the top of the "head Protector" to use it as a work platform of sorts occasionally.

Hope the picture I have tried to include shows up. Highly recommend the protection offered by covering the hood...

Mine is certainly light duty compared to yours, but it was NOT meant to protect like a full roll cage, but rather to protect from things a bit better than a hard hat would...:)

Please show more pics of your setup. Show us how you open the hood, etc. Good stuff!!!!

Nice setup Henro... thanks for sharing. I have kicked around the idea of a hood cover much like yours, but having to hinge it to lift the hood is an issue. Not one I can't solve, but one none the less. As Richard said, please post further pictures, especially if your hood lifts up!

Hi,

The hood guard comes off real easy. There are pins on the front held in place by clips, and the back end is held in place by switchable magnets I bought from Grizzly tools. Takes about a minute to remove and replace.

There is a very old thread showing build details. I will see if I can find it, if it still exists. I will post the link if I do.
