JD 318 LOADER

My dad has a 318 with a quikway loader on it. The hyd pump is going bad. If I do away with the front pump and plug the loader hoses into the front outlets ? Does the 318 have enough psi and flow to run the loader well?

If the pump wasn't needed don't you think it would have been run by the front couplers ? The hydro drive and power steering could use more flow just to operate the basic machine. Rebuild or look for another pump.

It may work but it will be really sloow, I don't think you will be happy with it. Take Agent Blue's advice.

I know that this loader was designed to fit JD tractors without hydraulics also thats why i asked?

Not sure on 318 my son had a 400 tha tran off the front couplers. Only had around 1.5 - 2 GPM flow at 700 PSI. Loder worked but it was slow and did not lift real well. Worked OK for mulch but would not lift a bucket of dirt.

The best answer is no.

It only has a 1.5 gal hyd tank.

I believe oldnslo is right about the pressure.

A 2 in cyl with 1 in shaft at 700 psi can push with a force of 2,199 lbs straight on, but pushing at any angle will decrease the load potential. Then you have the mechanical relationship, and the weight of the bucket.

The loader pump on my machine is 3 GPM at 3000 and performs well, and only requires about 6 HP. It is also driven from the fan belt on my engine. Cost of the pump is about $120.
