JD 3208E versus 3005 MT

I think the 3005 is too small for the implements listed but the 3203 with a hitch capacity of 1800 lbs or so will work. The hitch rating of the 3005 is about 800 lbs more or less, also the hydraulics are limited with 5.4 gpm to implements so the loader would be slow.

TC:

I've only used hydro trannies; but if you are going to be doing loader work, they are great. Also I like mine when I have to use the rotary cutter in tight spaces as it is so easy to finesse the tractor for the conditions.

I like manual transmissions in cars & trucks; but think hydro is best for general tractor use. Are you going to have inexperienced employees running your rig, or are you going solo? If you have employees, I suspect an inexperienced one will play havoc on the clutch pretty quick.

I own an 770, predecessor to the 790, which is the predecessor to the 3005.

For all of the work you describe, the hydro machines will be much easier to use. If its only you using the machine, you will be sorry not going with the hydro right off the bat. If you have employees running it, then you may be replacing the clutch prematurely.

Don't get me wrong, I like my machine, but the hydro transmission would make it much nicer to use. I mostly do loader and bush hog work, which is very speed and direction dependent. Even for long runs with the brush hog, the HST would allow speed changes as the terrain changes, without the bladed speed changing.

The 3038E is a new series that JD has released for those of use who don't want to pay for a lot of bells and whistles, but need a tractor with HST, a solid loader, 4x4 and some decent PTO HP. I will caution you that all I've seem of them is on paper. I would like to try one out and see how it does, especially mowing in high range. If they can mow in high range all day on hills, it would prove an effective replacement for my 770.
