JD 325 PTO clutch / voltage regulator / engine won't start

So the carb solenoid is only responsible for letting fuel up through the main of the carburetor. You should have 12 volts when the key is on to operate. Many times if you engage the park brake and hit the key- you can hear or feel the click when the key is cycled.

Tom is correct that you should have 12V on the solenoid when starting and running, but having the voltage does not mean that the solenoid is activating.

Close off your fuel line, take out the solenoid and ground it. Have someone sit on the seat, press the brake pedal, and hit turn the key to start, and see if the solenoid moves. Or you cold just dispense with the drama and cut the end of the solenoid plunger off, then re-install it.

I surrendered. Loaded it up and brought it in. Thought it was a stuck carburetor solenoid, but when I took that apart, it was clean and working fine. Then for some reason the **** thing fired up and I thought all was good. Mounted the deck and flipped on PTO.....engine killed! I figure it is something simple like a hidden short somewhere or maybe the main circuit board is fried. Tried new VR & new clutch to no avail. Stumped.

The problem lies in the safety interlock system, so that means seat, brake, neutral, PTO switch (safety side), or the board. That means checking switches and the wires for damage, including connectors.

Does that mean that you took it to a JD repair shop?

Please let us know what the problem was when you get your machine back.
