JD 3520 vs Kubota L3800

Hi Guys,

I currently have a 2011 Kubota L3400 and was considering trading it for a B3200, but after much looking I am now thinking maybe a new L3540HST might be best. My L3440 is a DT model. Any thoughts?

By the way, I have also looked at a JD 2720, but I am now thinking maybe ot might be way to small and I will be disappointed with it.

Ideas?

The L3540 is going to be hard to find. They came out with a new model, L3560. Either tractor would be a step up from a L3400DT.

HUGE CHANGE from a DT tractor to an HST. 95% of operators like the switch. But the other 5% hate it.

Most complaints are that the HST feels soft and unpredictable concerning movement.

Another complaint is that it's difficult to use the individual brake pedals while using the HST pedal, both being right of center. HST lovers will generally tell you that you don't need to use both at the same time. I never understood that idea???

Another thing you'll notice is that you cannot pinpoint your stops with HST. There's always a little movement after you take your foot off the HST pedal, again another reason to want to use the brakes. HST lovers will say you don't need the brakes, that the tractor will stop. Yeah it will eventually, but for my use in the timber, it might be just after I fall off the edge of a deep ravine.

On a 50hp and under tractor I prefer HST. But having had a L4400DT I also understand the frustration of the 5% that don't like it. On my last purchase I didn't have a choice so didn't have to decide.

Give whatever you decide on a full Test drive and see if its right for you.

That's why it's handy to have the advanced technology of HST pedals on the right, and brake pedals on the left :D

I'd keep the 3400DT!

But then I do not like HST at all, or the smaller JD tractors as much..

Yep. Kubota has at least moved them to the center in recent years so you can do the two foot method. Where the left foot method doesn't work is with tractors that still use a clutch pedal.
