My recommendation would be to buy a good mower setup for the lawn work first. Something smaller and lighter than what you have listed, which will address your mowing needs well. I would then give the tractors are hard look considering your present and future needs and uses. Upgrading can be very costly so it is better to get one large enough the first time. Also a tractor heavy enough to get some ground engaging work done is too heavy to mow with in finished areas such as lawns.

I have had good results using the x749 for the lawns and finishwork and the 4520 for the larger jobs involving grading and shaping with ground engaging tools. The 3720 doesn't fit either task very well imo. but can work for a small estate size property as an 8 in 1 tool.

For your property I would do some more shopping as you might be better off with a big ztr and a 5000 series tractor just depends on your long term needs.

Very good advice! You'll be unhappy with the finish mowing results using either the 3720 or the 4320. Neither one is a "premier" lawn tractor!

As well, what are your "long-term" plans for the 108 acres...?

If you have any considerations for future Ag related or increased acreage development plans - you might consider a 5000 series machine as well. Depending upon your budget - you can get into a 5000E machine for less or equal to a optioned out 3720 or a 4320.

I have owned the following JD compacts:
2320, 2520, 4115, 3320, 4500, 4120 (x2), 5203 and now a 4720 Cab. The 3x20 series are nice but I prefer the extra power of the JD 4 cyl diesel engine in the 4x20 series over the Yanmar. It is quieter and has more power. The 4x20 is also more stable for moving material with the loader.

I'd go with the 4x20 frame. I've got a 4120 if you want to try it out sometime.

Steve's advice is good, but, if ALL you are going to do is what you outlined, then you would be fine with the 3000 series tractor. It will do all of that. If you have some inclines, you can space the wheels out with skid steer spacers. The 4000 is probably more than you need, but you would love it. For what you outlined, get the 3520 with a cab, MMM ( You'll love it) or RFM, 6 ft rotary mower, and a weight box.

In another thread I ask if anyone was using a 4X20 series with mid-mower deck. I own a 3520 after three years thought that maybe I should have bought a 4X20 series. I guess not, Id say 3X20 is biggest you would want for mowing with a mid mower. 4X20 is just to heavy. I also found out. The 3X20 uses a independant lift for the mower deck. Apparently the 4X20 use the rocker shafts and 3 point linkage to function. Finding that out I wouldn't have bought one anyways.

What are you doing you need a 3720? or what are you doing you feel you need a 4X20 series?

My father and I traded an old 8N for the 3520 three years ago. We used the old 8N to run a 5' bush hog and used it to plow deep snow with a rear 6' grader blade on the 3pt hitch. My point is my 3520 really has more power than what I actually need for what I do with it. Most of the time it's used for mowing or I'm just using the bucket around the house. Winter, plow snow or haul firewood. Running the 72" autoconnect mower, even in heavy wet grass, the engine has no troubles at all. 5' bush hog is even easier on the tractor.
It has more HP than the old 8N had.
With what I do with the 3520. I could do what I do with a 3120 or 3320 most likely. I see no reason why I would to go so big as to need a 3720!

I have seen in another forum that using a cab 3520 with MMM in high grass with A/C on in cab it can bog down. It see it possible! Added weight of cab, A/c crankin, heavy load, maybe so.

I bought the 3520 simply because it was on the dealer lot. I was looking at the 2X20 series and the 3X20 series wanted a 60" or 72" MMM. Went to dealer. There sat a 3520, turf tires, FEL attached, 72" autoconnect mower attached. Demo'ed the tractor, talked trade, SOLD!
