JD 3720 Rotary Mowers

I have a 3720 cab tractor and a 4320 open station tractor along with 3 rotary cutters --- two 5' cutters and one 6' cutter. I've only had the 6 footer on the 3720 a couple of times and the front was very tippy on the hills due to additional RC weight and it works the engine more in heavy grass. So I just use the 6 footer on the 4320 in the heavy stuff and on steeper hills, and use the 3720 on flatter light/medium density grass.

Bottom line based on my experience is you'd be okay with the 6' rotary cutter on flatter terrain and light/medium density grass. You'd be happier with the 5 footer when on hilly terrain and/or heavy grass. Also, if time is a factor, you will be able to go a little faster with the 5 footer and offset the width advantage of the 6 footer.

I have a MX6 on a Kubota that is 44 hp at the pto. Don't think you'll have any issues with brush cause your going slow. Thick fescue is tough to keep the RPM up on however even with 44 horses. If your mowing trails I would assume its simi-shade and the grass won't be very thick. My MX 6 has given good service. The rear chains seem to rake up the grass and leave clumps but that not a real issue.

For what your doing I would say get the MX 5 or look at the land pride 5 foot mowers. They come in green ya know!:D
