I have the 448 backhoe with 18" HD bucket on my 3720. I am extremely happy that I ordered it. There are many projects you can do with it. As for removing trees and stumps all depends on what type of tree. If removing trees I have found that the 3720 can push over many trees and the momentum of pushing over the tree brings the roots out of the ground. Pines that have shallow roots are real easy. I can push approx. 18" or larger diameter pines over easily. (I don't have my tires filled but may in the future. Should be able to push like a locomotive with filled tires)
If it is a one time shot that you are removing trees/stumps then hire a dozer. Otherwise, having a backhoe to use to do what you want when you want is a feeling like no other.
While I initially reported my 448 to maybe be lacking power I now think it was operating skill.
My vote is for the 3720. The size of the machine is perfect for my needs and the extra money over time is little. And there is no I should have spent the money and got the more power blues. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bart, did you see the link to the Yanmar engine data? The graphs are linked on the chart...

4410 HST & ePR:
List $22,122 with small R-4's, dual SCV and third SCV. ePR $20,922.
Sales Receipt Price: $15,877 (ePR)
Gross HP 34.6
HST PTO HP 28.5 -- ePR - 30
Max Torque at Rated Speed 64.8 ft-lbs.
Power to wieght ratio 1:0.0119
Cost Per HP: $458.87
Cost of Torque: $245.02/ft-lb.

Ratios are figured on the ePR model, since that is the true sales price figure that I have. Also, you did not mention hydraulic options in your first analysis. If those base prices and dealer quotes don't include the dual SCV and the third SCV, then that needs to be considered in this comparison.

In regard to a "later in the thread" comment on the backhoe, I have to disagree on its value. While I may not use it as much as I do other implements, when I do use it, it has the greatest degree of satisfaction of anything I do with the tractor. It is just plain fun. It has also allowed me to tackle projects I would not have considered before. When I got ready to put in a sprinkler system, I did have the good sense to rent a trencher. But the valve box excavations were a 5 minute job instead of an hour long back breaker. And, when the trencher encountered one of our limestone 2' x 4' floaters, I could get it out instead of going around. It is an expensive replacement for a shovel, but you did mention that you have had problems with your back since an accident. I would not be without my backhoe.

454Shooter,

Are you able to push those 18+ inch pines over using the tractor, the FEL or the BH? If with the BH, have you also tried same with the tractor or FEL and if so what was your experience? I have selected the 300CX with a HD 61 inch bucket and am wondering how bullish it might be. Probably not as good but maybe near.

With regard to having what you want when you want it, I can see too many hires for stumpers to come out and clean up my weeks or months worth of stumps. So I hear what you are saying. Regarding a bulldozer, in addition to the foregoing , my concern is they will be much like a bull in a china shop, not able or willing to be as selective as I would like. For clear cutting, you bet.

Also is the BH you have the one you would reccommed, and what else have you done with it?

Thanks for the very helpful info.

Jeff,

had planned on and priced a third service, but not in prices quoted. power beyond would be needed and I understand that is independent (in terms of usefulness and need) to the rear scv. Right? Thanks for the BH advice. Very useful data.

The right answer to my question seems to be getting more expensive all the time... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

oh yeah... if I dont go with the BH (and by the way which one and what is a good street price for it?), will a mini track hoe be as good at pushing and tearing out stumps or is its weight a limiting factor?

Yes, different animals altogether. Third SCV is a rear hydraulic hook up with a lever that moves a cylinder in and out. I use mine for a hydraulic top cylinder and for the dump on my trailer. The lever is installed by the dealer right next to the rockshaft control.

The Power Beyond kit puts a hydraulic connection point that is not controlled by a valve at the rear of your tractor. The attachment can be connected such that it bypasses the rockshaft control (this is used for the backhoe). In addition to the backhoe the Power Beyond can be used for hydraulic implements that have their own controls, like log splitters.

Glad you mentioned it. the PB kit is also in the price I listed for the 4410. I don't mean to sound like a one-tune-Charlie here, but looking at your analysis, it seems to me it would be worth your time to track down a 4410 to test drive.

hey one tune,

thanks for pushing the point. I didnt quite get it before, but as long as my dealer doesnt throw a fit or start telling stories of none available, (heard that about the TEN line before) I guess I could look around and find one to drive.

Do need to order one, due to options I want, so still having them on the assembly line is important.
