JD 4010 compact tractor / CC Carryall D / recently sold a Farmall 100
Greetings
I have a 20 year old 4010 compact tractor, reasonably good shape has been serviced regularly. I noticed this past year the FEL doesn't seem as strong, the power steering, once in a great while, will cut out and won't move. Yesterday the FEL just flat quit raising when I was lifting some branches. After a few minutes I had up pressure again.
The hydraulic fluid is full and was changed 2 years ago. 1100 total hours. Small property owner and we run a Land Pride FDR 1660 behind the tractor for occasional lawn mowing.

I would appreciate input on this issue.

Sounds like the hydraulic pressure relief valve has some schmutz floating around in it. You can pull it out and inspect. Sometimes the O-ring gets pinched and a small tear will let it leak, too. Max out pressure demanded (rpm up, loader overloaded) and see if it clears up. Could be worse, too, but now you know from what.

When the tranny oil was changed, did you also clean the screen in the transmission? I believe there is one, and it may be plugged or constricted. Just a thought...

I really appreciate your replies. Funny I can't recall cleaning that screen but I must have. It would be easy enough to check again.

Where is the hydraulic pressure relief valve located?

Thanks again!

You can pull that screen out and check it without losing transmission fluid by using a shop vac to draw a vacuum on the tranny at the fill cap. Won't allow the oil to drain from the system. Should maybe have a new gasket if needed. You will know when you look at it if it was checked.

Hello,

FYI I back tracked the filter screen and it appears that screen is pertinent to the older JD 4010 series and not applicable to my 4010 compact tractor. That explains why I did not recall dealing with it.
