Ford 3000, JD 4115
My local JD dealer, whom I bougt my 425 from, has a 4100 with loader,mmm,front snowblower, front blade, extra set of tires and wheels, and trailer with only 165 hours, for around 17-18k.

I have a ford 3000 and have used a friends JD 855 with loader and tiller a few times, which spoiled me. I have looked at the NH and Kubota and am interested in both due to the extra 4 HP and newer design of the loader on the NH specifically.

My dilemna is the 4100 is probably the best deal hands down,but I don't know if the 20hp of the 4100 will be enough to do what I want to do compared to the other units I've used. If the 20 horse JD and loader will be enough, I would be happy.

I know a lot depends on my applications, and right now general grounds care and mowing on my 7 acres will be the main use. I don't want to handicap myself in the future though.

Thanks for your input.

Mike

It all depends on what you want to do, but the 20 HP motor only tells part of the story. The Hydrolics tell the rest, and it has a very respectable hyrolic system. The FEL's limit is 865 Lbs at max height - considerable more when load is lowered.
The rear PTO handles PHD, Brush hogs (513 or rotary cutters), Rear Blade, Rakes, Aerators, tillers, etc...It also has a new available attachment a back hoe (46BH) which is very strong for the size. Hopefully the MMM is 60" or larger because 7 acres is a lot to mow, but this machine will handle it no problem...
These machines have an outstanding reliability record, and with the front blower (thats a $3800 option in itself) and trailer you cant go wrong!!! I forgot to mention it has great ground clearance as well which gives it a full CAT 1 rating...

Good luck either way, lets us know what happens

For that price it does not sound like a very good deal. I think you would like the extra power of the NH TC24, the Kubota B2410....and you might as well check the Kubota B7610. The 7610 will suprise you at the value, and it has the same proportions but with 24 hp. Good Luck

Mike, I saw your post last evening, but have been thinking about if for a while. I think the only difference you may find between the JD and the others that MIGHT limit you is the implement size you can effectively power with your PTO. As Duc pointed out, the FEL differences are probably negligable and while I strongly prefer the the NH 12LA loader over all others, the JD will lift a lot more than my back will.

You didn't fill out your profile s we have no idea where you are. But I like a lot of power per foot of mower deck because I live in the midwest where we get very thick grass. You didn't say what size the mower deck is, but if it was me, I'd want nothing short of 15pto hp for a 60" mower deck (3hp per 12" and I'd prefer more than that).

I suppose you need to ask yourself what size implements you want to run that are not included in the dealer's package.

That sure seems like a great price for the JD, no way you could come close to that price if you were buying new. Is there any warrenty left on the JD? If not, is the dealer willing to give you a 30 day warrenty or, better yet, a 7 day no-questions asked return/refund policy? IF you were able to get either of those, you could take the machine home, work it hard and make sure there is nothing wrong with it, if there is, you'd have some recourse if the machine was abused. At 165 hours it is unlikely it is abused.

Here is some math to consider:
NH 914A MMM = about $2000 (side discharge)
NH 12LA loader = about $3800
NH 63" front blower= about $3800
Front blade = ?
Trailer = $1800
TC24DA = about $12,000 (HST)

Cost is roughly $24,000 but you get a 2 year warrenty and a fresh machine with more power.

I filled out my profile so you have a better idea of what I do. I have a 9 month old house and am very busy with landscaping, gardening and lawn care. This weekend I got a 12x24 shed and spread 3 loads of fill, 2 loads of topsoil, raked,planted grass and spread straw. All the while I thought about how my 3000 did the job, but how much easier it would have gone with a loader and a more maneuverable unit.

Most of the equipment I have for my 3000 is too large for any compact tractor. I do not want to replace my 3000 that I have for 13 years, but rather my 425. I have always wanted a more compact maneuverable tractor since I used my friends 855 a few times. The ease of loading and spreading manure and tilling was unbelievable. I priced a 3 pt and pto for the 425 and at $1300 I would have a big lawn mower with limited capability and expensive attachments. With 5.3 ac of my own and 2.6 acres across the street as a rental property that the tenants do not always keep up with, my 425 will be pushed when my own grass is finally established.

I am really considering the upgrade to a compact due to the limitations with both of my current units. One is too large and the other too small. I figure a compact like the tractors I am considering with a mmm will replace my 425 thus giving me another $4500-$5500 towards the compact. My wife will be able to drive any hydro tractor as she loves the 425's hydro. A snowblower will be a bonus as she will be able to clear snow when I am snowmobiling each Jan. and Feb. A loader will top off the package for saving my 37 y/o aching back.

I am leaning to the 4100 as I know the dealer quite well. I have purchased 2 snowmobiles, a 425, a four wheeler and have sent 2 others who have also purchased tractors to him. The unit is a repo and has been serviced by the dealer since new. I don't really need the front blade, tires, or cart and would let them go for a lower price on the remaining equip.

Financing plays a minor role as 0% is very appealing on the new stuff. I would not tie up my money, but buying new would mean spending substantially more for the same or less depending on what I end up with.

My biggest dilemna is the load/lift height capability of the 410 loader and Hp of the 4100 as compared to the other units, specifically the NH. I really like the feel of the NH and the loader capabilities of the 12al. If I am making a mountain out of a mole hill, let me know.

Sorry so long, but I want as much input asap to make my decision.

Thanks in advance,

Mike
