Jd 4100 FUEL ENJECTOR PUMP INSTALLATION

I do believe I must replace the injector pump and Injectors due to my worker put gas in my diesel engine. I did replace the fuel pump and still won't start. It was running fine and just quit. I ck the fuel and notice gas in the tank. I did try to start several times and feel I contaminated the pumps and injectors.
Change out: bled the lines, fuel, fuel filter, fuel pump... no start. will turn over start by soaking rag and place in breather as thou choking and runs for a few seconds.

Is it hard to change the injector pump and injector? Tips I should be aware of?

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion for pump and injector replacement.. just yet.
Some more history of the timing of events.. as well as how much gas in how much diesel happened?

Why did you replace the fuel pump? Don't understand what you soak that rag with to get a start. ??

Lets do alittle diagnosing first.. When u changed the supply pump u let air in the fuel system.. it no likey that..
Loosen the fuel inlet banjo bolt on the injection pump & turn the key on.. I'm "guessing" it has an electric supply pump?
IF NOT, spin the engine over until u get a steady stream of fuel AT the loosened bolt AT the pump inlet.. now tighten.
NOW, Go up to the injectors & loosen ALL the lines, AT THE INJECTORS, NOT THE PUMP..
Now spin the engine till u get fuel squirting out at the loosened lines.. DONT burn up the starter.. spin for 8-10 seconds then let it rest for afew..
IF your not getting fuel AT THE LOOSENED LINES.. THEN its time to pull the pump & injectors..
I can handle the rebuild.. no need to get "NEW" ones..

If your not getting fuel out of the lines, it may be that, the control rack in the inj. pump is stuck from lack of lubrication.??
Gasoline does not have the same lubrication properties as diesel fuel.. so the inj. pump "locks up"..
When/IF u have to pull the pump.. if its the inj. pump I'm thinking of, its held down into the block w/ 4 bolts on the corners>> a PFR pump??
U don't have to worry about "timing"..
The pump is timed w/{steel/brass} SHIMS under the inj. pump.. just don't lose them.. they HAVE TO go back w/ the new/rebuilt inj. pump.
They'll either be "stuck" to the engine block or the bottom of the inj. pump.. keep an eye out for them..

Before attempting to bleed fuel system push throttle lever over 1/2 way forward. Be prepared to return throttle lever to idle positioning if engine starts running. CAUTION: Be sure to keep fingers/hands away from spraying diesel fuel.

Ty you for this info. I need to set the people and time of events that took place
1. I personally replaced the Fuel Cut-off Solenoid and it work great.
2. The 4100 was running great and all of a sudden stop running.
3. I ckd the fuel and found out it was gas not diesel so drained and replaced, and replaced fuel filter as well.
The mechanic suggested I replace the supply pump and he replaced it didn't do anything different.
4. I watched My neighbor a whose father is a Diesel Mechanic performed all the procedures you mentioned.
5. He bled the lines, turned the nuts on the injectors and got fuel blowing out. He did this several times and tried starting over and over.
6. He pulled the air filter except the little on and soaked a rag with gas and placed over the mouth of the air intake and he started it and ran for a few minutes and then died assuming lack of fuel.
"My question is, if this started his way by covering the air intake my opinion for what is is worth, the engine is running by forcing fuel by a method of choking I assume ????
7. Question does this mean the injectors work?
8. The injector pump is getting (some) fuel by force? Is it ok?
9. The mechanic suggested I get the parts and he would replace.

If this the fact I have to replace, what would the rebuilt injector pump cost me?

Sucking gasoline fumes or any other starting aid such as ether into intake manifold doesn't require use of diesel injectors for engine to fire. Don't give up too quickly because several yrs back my daughter filled her 12 valve Dodge diesel pickup with gasoline & drove it about 100 miles. Engine died & she called me. I thought fuel filter was clogged so when I changed filter I smelled gasoline. I drained tank put some diesel in tank,bleed fuel system got engine running & she drove truck for several more yrs. YMMV
