JD 410D ring gear trouble....

Hi all, I'm new. I need some speedy help....the ring gear rivets sheared on my '95 jd 410D backhoe. I need a service manual or a schematic for the rear end and or instructions for dropping the transaxle.

Asap would be very much appreciated!!!

Rivets? Do you mean bolts? Why do you suspect that? It is more likely that it broke the teeth off the side and pinion gears in the carrier. As far as removing the differential I don't recall there being any secrets that the manual will reveal, it's basically remove bolts until the right parts are on the ground.

I have the top cover off and I can see everything.....the rivets (yes they are 1/2" dia. rivets) Are sheared off between ring gear and diff housing flange.

They look to be a shear point to protect the drivetrain.

I just thought I'd try the forums first before I rip into it....I'm more than capable to do it...just thought I'd get any special info.
I work on atvs and diesel trucks mostly...fun fun!

Rather than dropping the transmission axle case I think you need to pull both axle housings and remove the differential from the top of the case.
You are correct rivets hold the ring gear on, 8 either 7/16 or 1/2 depending on serial number. I am not sure how you remove or reset them.

Learn something new everyday. I can't say that I've ever seen the ring gear held on by rivets in this large of a machine. I'm guessing the dealer recommends replacing the gear and housing assembly together, and they don't try to replace the rivets. The local dealer here tries to sell the whole $7000+ rear axle rather than make any repairs.
