( have there beenany significant changes between the enw 4110 and the 1999 4100?

Is it worth pony-ing up for the new model compared with buying a used 4100? )

If the price is right and the machine is low enough hours, there is nothing significantly different between the 4100 series and todays 4110. The engine, hydrolics are basically identical.
The 3pt limit is a little lower rated on the 4100 compared to the 4110. If thats an issue, its an easy tweak to bump it up because the flow rate is the same between the two...On other words you find a good 4100, grab it !! They are all used once it leaves the showroom /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey, Duc. Does your 4100 have position control on the 3PH? I don't remember whether that was one of the differences between the 4100 and the 4110.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Shopping is done. My buddy started with the 4110, then decided to price a 4115 with a FEL, the 410 loader I believe, no MMM on this one and a Landpride tiller for just over 20k. Then we decided to check out the Kubota dealership. The Kubota salesman was much more eager to make a sale and took a lot of time explaining and demonstrating the B7800.

Bottom line:

B7800, Kubota loader, Kubota 72" MMM, loaded R4's, setup and delivery, and same Landpride tiller as in the JD quote...$20,000...Done

Looks like he got a helluva lot more tractor for his 20k.

He did get 10% more PTO HP (Although measured at 10% more RPM) , but he also lost a lot too. He certainly didn't get "a helluva lot more tractor for his 20k", in fact, I'd claim he got quite a bit less. As has been addressed before, he lost position control, he has to use a clutch, and a whole variety of other features that make the Deere well worth the extra money.

It was up to the Deere salesman to show him exactly what he is missing and that salesman failed. Deere's loss. Deere needs to educate their salesmen better. They have an excellently priced product, but the salemen aren't educated in the differentiators.

On the other hand, the buyer will never know what he's missing, and I think he will be quite happy with a 7800. It's a fine basic machine.

Ok, here we go:

Kubota B7800: Engine-Kubota 4 cylinder 30hp 22ptohp 91.5 cu in. Transmission-HST 3 range. Hydraulics-quarter inch valve, lift cap @ lift point 1655, lift cap @ 24" LP 1300

JD 4115: Engine-Yanmar 3 cylinder 24 hp 19.9 ptohp 73.22 cu in. Transmission-HST 2 range. Hydraulics-position, lift cap @ lift point 2530, lift cap @ 24" behind LP 1150

I'm not an expert on Kubota or John Deere tractors but the numbers look a quite a bit better for the B7800 and when the Kubota salesman put a used (clean trade in with 185 hours) 4115 next to the B7800 the Kubota with the FEL, 72" MMM sure looked impressive. Getting all that for 20k with the Landpride tiller, dealer with a great reputation and long history, excellent parts availalabilty and extensive dealer network the decision to buy orange was easy.

Why pay more and get a lot less. He did not give up on quality of product, dealer network, parts availabilty and got a dealer that got up off his rear end and was interested in selling him a tractor.

Yes...he did get a helluva lot more tractor for his $20,000 in my humble opinion.

OK, my mistake.

I didn't notice the lack of the MMM on the JD. Given that, the JD4115 and tiller are about 2-3K more than it should have been priced.

Still, in your description I don't see the "helluva lot more tractor" except in gross horsepower, but the 7800 is a great tractor. and 20K for what he got is good price.

Like you said, the dealer, specifically the salesman, was willing to put in the effort and got the sale. And like I said, Deere's loss.

Either way, it's a lot of fun looking at tractors and more fun owning one. I've only noticed a couple or a few people on TBN who aren't exceedingly happy with their choice of tractor.

BTW, is the lift capacity on the JD really 2530 pounds? Seems unlikely it would be 1K pounds higher than the 7800. Was that 1530 by chance?

Cliff, regarding the lift capacity number for the 4115 of 2530. Yes, it didn't look right to me either but the number comes straight from the "4000 TEN SERIES" sales brochure page 29. I didn't mean to start any controversy, just relating a tractor buying experience and how a lousy sales effort on the part of the JD salesman let one get away.

I suspect the 2500lb number is incorrect - its probably more like 1500 lbs.

The 4115 is only a few inches longer and a few hundred pounds heavier than my 4100, and I know that on my 4100 lifting 2500 lbs on the 3-pt, will for sure tip the tractor over backwards! The whole rest of the tractor only weighs like 1800 lbs, and a lot of that sits near or over the rear axle.

When putting my FEL on, sometimes I put the ballast block on the back first due to where it happens to be parked. Just that 900 lbs makes the front very light while I carefully drive over to where the FEL is parked.

I cannot imagine putting 2500lbs back there, even with the FEL on. Maybe with a bucket full of dirt as front ballast?

If JD insistes that the 2500lb number is correct, I'd also check the load rating of the stock tires. I suspect that it would overload the rears, and if ballasted to be balanced, the fronts as well.

The lift cap of the 3PH for both the 4115 and 4110 is 1150 pounds 24" behind link arms as stated above. I belive the 2500 pound cap at lift point is probably a bit less than that, but my manual is silent on the topic.
