I have a JD 4200 4wd that needs new front tires. It has R4's all the way around and the backs are just fine, so I'll have to stick with the 23x8.5x12" size for the front. I'm just curious, has anyone tried using the correct size on the front but with HDAP 6 ply tires? Is there any reason why I can't use a different type tire on the front as long as it's the correct size so I don't affect the 4wd operation? I'm kind of trying to stay away from NEW R4's for the front because I drive it across my lawn. I've tried to find used ones with 50% or so to ease the edge or the bars on them (not as pronounced as on used ones), but have been unsucessful.

Thanks, Bill

As long as the outside diameter of the tires is the same, you will be fine.

Thanks Tom, that's what I thought.

Yeah, it is just a simple ratio between the two. The fronts go around so many times per every one time the rears go around.
