Tractor has been running good for years but now won't start?
It is a 425 carbureted and cranks over but won't fire up?
I have tried replacing gas and new gas filter, pulled plugs, looked ok and seems to be sparking.
With choke on and air filter cover off there is definitely gas going in and it will try to backfire but then nothing?
Not sure what to look at next?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I believe it is a 2000 which should put the metal can shaft in it?
ID number on frame is M00425A053230

Time delay module? It would be located near the left rear side of the shroud with 5 wires out the bottom. The original style was squarish and bolted on. the newer style is cylindrical in shape and zip tied on. ~ 20$

Ya I bought it used so not 100% on age? I will need to have look tonight after work. I hope it's not the cam shaft?
I don't see a time delay module in my tech manual?

No sticker below the front shaft on engine?
I have 1098 hrs on it. So how big of a job is it as I'm a carpenter and not a mechanic?
And how can I verify without taking 2hrs to dealer?
Thanks in advance

So no valve movement will identify that it is the plastic cam gear failure?
Thanks for the replies. It looks like there is a fair bit of info around on the net for the 425.
I will check with the dealer tomorrow and at least check on costs of repairs by them and parts if I decide to try and tackle it??

Well I pulled the valve covers off and the right side had one valve move when cranking engine over but only once? The left side had both move but same thing only once? Would that mean the cam gear is starting to turn but then stop?
I am getting ready to order parts but want to ensure what's wrong...
Egon, I didn't check the ignition what would the procedure be for that?
Thanks

There is oil in the valve area, all springs look ok. All the arms are in place.
I pulled the spark covers off and turned it over for about 5 seconds. I'm definitely not a mechanic so not sure how everything should be or how it all works, but I am thinking that turning engine over for 5-7 seconds should have the valves moving up and down 4 or 5 times at least?

So if everything was working properly how many times should the valves cycle in the 5-7 sec range?
