Oh and apparently it is a '96 motor that was put together in early '97.

Well drained oil and didn't see any chunks in oil but the drain hole is pretty small and oil obviously is very cool.
I know the battery is weak so will replace that today but can't imagine that has anything to do with it?
Next thinking about pulling engine apart to confirm that it is cam gear before I order parts. But need to get parts ordered as will be going to USA in a week and can pick up on way back.

So pulled the engine out last night but didn't start to open up yet for inspection. Just wondering if I should be going through the crankcase side or the flywheel side?
I ordered the kit thinking if camshaft isn't the cause it should still be changed with the amount of hours I have.
So I will be doing the camshaft replacement regardless.

Pulled the crankcase off today and Cam gear it is the issue. I will need a new water pump gear and oil pump gear as there is a tooth missing on both.
So far it has been easy but wondering if I should go deeper and be checking the pistons or not? Or if I should be checking anything else while I have it apart?

As always thanks for the help to all.

Well I have recieved the kit so now debating on taking heads off to inspect Pistons while u have it all opened up?
So far it has been fairly easy but a little nervous about going deeper... When completed I will start a new post of the steps I have taken.
It is so nice to have this resource and want to help sanitizer else.
Just have to make sure I have the head gaskets before I open and then put it all back together and hopefully starts up? Lol
Anyways if anyone else has done this feel free to through or any hints it tips... Always appreciated.
Hoping to spend an hour or two tonight and finish on weekend.

So far the only damage I have seen is stripped cam gear, water pump gear and oil gear. I will try and get some decent pics and post.

Well didn't get the head gasket so won't go any farther. Was trying to get the springs off and there are no holes in the c clamp? Don't want to break them? Any one change there springs on the 425 and have any suggestions?
