Tractor
John Deere 4300
Purchased new in 1999. In the last few years tractor would not crank over sometimes until I pressed the forward and reverse pedals several times. Now it will not crank over at all.

When I turn ignition key to start I hear a loud click in upper right hand corner of dashboard. Battery is fully charged and terminals are clean. The problem appears to be electrical. I will check the fuses and relays by pulling, cleaning and replacing.

Can I test the starter by turning the ignition key on and hot wire the starter, or will this not work if the problem is a safety switch or relay?

Suggestions or advice please.

The relay that controls the fuel shut off solenoid had a tendancy to fail on 4x00 tractors. Will be one of the relays in the face of lower steering column. Most of these relays are the same you may be able to identify fuel shut off and swap w/ another less important one.
