......... My suggestion is to buy the loader, and rent a mini-excavator for the stump removal.

From experience, I must agree with Kennyd. I have a 485 BH on a 4320 and it is a decent BH for digging but a mini-excavator will be far better for removing stumps -- especially newer stumps larger than 8 inches in diameter.

The smaller hoes on the 3000 and 4000 machines are very capable and will tackle stumps and with a little time and effort - clear 'em out!

But... a steady diet of stumps and/or consistent use on that kind of work will wear the hoe out and break it down --- way before it's time!

Another vote here - rent a track hoe.

Maybe that's OK if you have a lot of stumps to pull but what happens when you bring it back? Now you're out a BH which is a pretty handy thing. Besides, I've pulled stumps for years with tractor hoes without beating them to death. What's the difference whether you're digging in hard pan or pulling stumps? If it's commercial than that's a different story but for the home guy a tractor BH is fine and it saves maintenance and storage of two machines.
