Posted in another thread, my son bought it 34 years ago, here's a pic with him holding my 2 grandsons right after he bought it, hard to remember the exact date, but over time he restored it, sad to say we lost him a few years ago, just before it was finished, it's been in storage ever since. I understand it's on the rare John Deere list as it came with a 2 cylinder Detroit diesel , because JD engine division was on strike at the time. PJ

Don't recall that strike, but 1960 is when JD changed away from the 2-cyl tractors to 4 and 6 cyl engines.

Nice rebuild on that 435.. sorry to hear about the son.

The box around the seat does not look factory.. wondering what it is there for. ?

Nice looking tractor & I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I've never heard the "JD Strike story" BUT I thought the 435 was JD's 1st attempt to enter the diesel powered utilty tractor market. The seat frame resembles the float ride seat shown in 435 parts catalog shown in photo below..

My son researched the softride seat and found it was an expensive option found on very few JDs. It is supposed to be covered with thick padding on armrests, seat and back and a vinyl cover. It works like an air ride. This was the project he was working on at the end.

As most would know, the 435 is a modified 430 that JD used to get into the small diesel market and compete with other manufactures that already had small diesels for sale. Only going by what I've been told by a JD collector. PJ
