JD 4400 tractor starting problems

After attaching box tiller for 1st time this season, it ran fine for the 1st pass. After making tiller depth adjustment, starter won't turn over in spite of voltage going to it. Can hear it click when I turn key to 1st position. PTO indicator is ON on dashboard and lever is OFF. Interchaghanged K1 AND K9 relays to see if K9 was bad. I'm stumped.

Suggest you go to selectmanuals.com and for $34.95 you can download the tech manual. You should find in the manual a starting system diagram and a wiring diagram. If you cannot determine the problem from the manual, consider posting those 2 diagrams and others should be able to pin point the problem or at least suggest a course of action to determine the problem.

As other have suggested to you in other posts from what you have described the problem is a PTO safety switch. Looking at the operators manual (link below), it looks like the PTO lever is to the right of the operators seat? If that is correct, I suggest you look at the base of the lever for a switch.

Have you checked the fuses?
