Why is the hydrostat transmission not an option on the JD 4500?

I just checked the book (Sales flyer - 4000 Series Tractors 20 to 48 Horsepower) it shows the 4500 can be ordered with a HST. Dealer told me you couldget it on any 4000 Series.

You better check again about 4500 Hydro

I checked my sales literature on the JD 4000 series and the only thing its says about hydrostat on the JD 4500 is "hydrostatic power steering".Your dealer doesnt know his products very well, the only option available for the tranny is "power reverser transmission" or the standard collar shift.I even went to the Deere and Co. home page and it does not say anything about the "hydrostatic transmission" being available on the 4500, it only states the optional "power reverser" or the standard collar shift, the hydrostatic transmission is not listed in the JD 4500 configuration page on the JD home page.

DPR, Hillbilly,

My own research prior to buying a 4700 supports the view that hst is (or at least was) NOT available on the 4500.

The right hand of the JD brochure/pamphlet dept. has not always had perfect awareness of what the left was doing. I'd triple-check before ordering, to avoid disappointment on delivery. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Larry,
Now that I think more about it,I believe the reason they did not make a JD 4500 hydrostat was because,it would make the 4500 PTO horse power too close to the 4400 PTO horsepower, since the hydrosatat robs the tractor an extra horse power + or -.

I'm sorry. I like the old sayings" I would get no exercise at all if it wasn't jumping to conclusions and flying off the handle" When I started tractor buying I looked at a 4500. It was not HST. Ask the dealer he told me without looking all the 4000s could be ordered with HSTs. I ended up buying a 4300 so it never came up again. In the sales flyer I saw the steering."Hydrostatic Power" You can be sure I'll pay more attention next time.

If that were the reason why do they make the 4300 and the 4400 both with HST, they are closer than the 4400 to the 4500. I have often thought that John Deere should have only made about 1/2 the number of 4000 series and put at least 10 HP between each.
