JD 4500 turns over but will not start, left alone for 15 minutes and starts?

Looking for some help. I have a 2000 JD 4500 with 800 hours. When I try to start it, it turns over well but does not start. After trying several times, I let the tractor sit for a little while and it usually starts. I have checked the ground wire connection on the block and it seems fine. Any idea of the problem or solution. Thanks for the help!

Fuel ? Fuel filter been checked/replaced, and no water in the sediment bowl ? Do you hear the solenoid click and open the fuel shut-off when you turn the key on ? After it sits awhile, and then starts and runs, does it run smoothly or by fits and rough running?

Supply pump.??
Does it do that after using it.. or does it start right up.??
If I has the no-start condition first thing and then it’s fine thru out the day, I would say supply pump.

Thanks, I will recheck the fuel filter. I wondered about the selenoid. I had not thought about the fuel pump but will look into it.

Check and replace the thermister.

Well I replaced the thermister, not the easiest job but I got it done. Turned the key, heard sharp sound and now the tractor is completely dead. It blew the 30 fuse on the starter circuit. I put in a new fuse and nothing when I turn the key. Some days it is better not to fix things! Open to any suggestions at this point!

I had the same problem and found that the vent in the fuel cap had some blockage causing a vacumm.

Thanks to everyone. I decided that I needed to figure out the problem based on all the advice. Turns out it was a set of 3 issues. Replacing the thermister really helped on the fuel solenoid. Now I get a strong click everytime I turn the key. Before, I often did not hear a click. Second while the battery tested ok, it was old and when I put a charger on it the meter showed on 50% of rated capacity. I bought a new battery. Third while installing the new battery I found a crack in the cable end that attaches to the positive terminal. Thus, I could not tighten the cable securely to the battery post and the cable was loose although it looked ok. I cut the cable and installed a new end.

Now the tractor is starting every time and runs well. Thanks to everyone for the help.
