JD 4510 vs NW TC40D

I will be purchasing 77 acres of land with half woods, the rest rolling fields and some hills. I will need to brush hog (the top field is 1/2 mile long), do some tree planting, loader work, dig up some trees, and plant food plots (2 to 5 acres) to deer hunt over. Will overall be doing habitat deveopment and will build a home on the site as well. I looked at NH TC40D and have considered a JD 4510. Any help is appreciated such as are these machines big enough? Cost is an issue, but I would consider going up to the NH TC45D, which is bigger and equal in price to the JD 4510. I can get the NH, bush hog and loader for only a $1,000 more than the Deere alone.

I was in the same dilemma, what got me was the FEL performance on the NH's. That may not be an issue for you, but you'd want to make sure.

Certainly all three are fine machines....

Personally, I would go with the TC45D. I have the TC40D on 80 acres and will probably go to the TN series soon. The fact that you're looking at doing a 2-5 acre food plot would push me to get the extra 5 HP without question.

What about the FEL?? Sorry to be ignorant. I've heard good things about the design of the FEL on the New Hollands, but I notice you have a Deere. I wouldn't even think of a tractor without a bucket on the front. It seems such a useful, necessary attachment. I can picture me carrying out garbage weekly with it....just for an excuse to get on the machine.

I am NOT saying thae NH FEL is bad. But when I was looking, the NH salesmen kept pushing me to the TN Series. They were concerned about the front axle. Now, I hear the new Boomers are getting a beefed up front axle; that's great. And even the current version might be fine for your needs.

I know what you mean by being able to get several more implements. You can never have too many!

You certainly are right about a tractor being such a useful attachment for a FEL! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

As the owner of both a Ford (NH) 2120 and a TN75D I can tell you there is no comparison in the loader capacity of the two. The 2120 which was the largest model in the previous pre-Boomer line and has a slightly larger frame than the TC45. The loader on the TN will pick up roughly twice what the 2120 will. If the dealer was recommending a TN to you for loader capacity, were you specifing capacity far in excess of what your Deere will do? To the best of my knowledge New Holland has not had front axle problems due to loader operation with the Boomers. The New Holland loaders are excellent and well matched to the tractors.

After a lot of looking at the big 3 I went with the 4510 and have been very happy since then. The differences were small but in total the green machine won out. When I started looking at the differences in dealers the choice got pretty easy.

I have been getting about 2 acres of hillside and down near the creek ready for horse pasture. All I use at this point is a box scraper and FEL. My only regret is that I did not heed the advice of others here and get a toothbar. That aside I could not be happier it is one tough little machine and it never ceases to amaze me with all the work it will do.

I am very biased since the 4510 and our green lawn tractor have both exceeded expectations so far. Do your research, pick a good dealer and you cant go too far wrong.

can't tell u which way to go as i am not real familiar with the JD. but my friend does have a TC45 and i can tell you that , it is one fine machine. get the size that is best for you most of the time.

I think the concern about the front axles was on the Class II Boomers TC-25 thru 33, and that is why the 7308 loader has a relatively low capacity - 875lbs. Now that the new 14LA loader is out, the front end is beefed up on those models and the lift capacity is up also - 1250lbs. For the TC45 you are talking about 2000lb lift capacity vs 2330lb lift capacity on the 4510.
