JD 455 Mid PTO won't engage

To the OP, did you ever find the problem ? I don,t believe the 455 has a PTO clutch. It,s all hydraulic driven. When you active the switch, can you feel the coil in the rear activate ? If you get 12V to the coil, the coil should energize and do its thing. Make sure the other wire has got a good ground on it. You need to have that as well.

Have you checked that there is 12v at the solenoid while the mower is running and operator on the seat? Do you know for sure you never loose power to the solenoid after the pto stops? Make sure your not loosing the ground either. Just because you have constant 12v coming in doesn't mean there is a constant ground. The most common fault is the pto switch. But if your getting constant 12v power and a constant earth. And pto still doesn't work. Then you can rule out everything electrical. On the other hand put a jumper wire from a 12v battery straight to the 2 solenoid wires and see if your pto works. That will let you know if it's wiring before the solenoid or mechanical inside the transaxle.
