[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]Hi guys. Haven't been around much lately, as the 455 has been purring like a kitten :p for the last year or so without so much as a hiccup, and I have all the options and accessories I can afford! But, in preparation for a snow fall (that luckily was sort of a non-event) I started my tractor and drove it from the storage shed to my garage where I was going to install my blade. I started assessing the chore and realized the first thing I needed to do was hang the 3-point on the back so I could add some ballast. The 3-point was back over at the storage shed, so I jumped on the tractor to head back over and it wouldn't start. Now, the thing is still warm. It hadn't been 10 minutes since it had been running. The battery seemed fine. It acts just like it does when the parking brake is not engaged (dash lights fine, you can hear the fuel pump, etc.). The first thing that I thought was that my seat switch "modification" had been damaged, but that checked out. Just to be sure, I put the battery on a charger overnight. Still no love. In the Service Manual it shows the wiring diagram for the PTO and parking brake interlocks, but it doesn't explain very well where the fuses are located. I think they're all on the back of the tower, where almost all the wiring is, which brings me to a list of questions after this long-winded explanation.

How do you access the wiring in the tower?

Any known tendencies for the 455 starter interlocks?

I'm pretty well equipped to tackle this, but I'd rather have some guidance than just start tearing things down that may not need torn down. Thanks in advance for your help.

you said you altered the seat switch,
can you try to do the same with the
brake switch? that could be the culprit this time???
i think that tractor has the ignition module,
tied to the key switch, which is on the right side
of the steering column. you should see it with
some relays and a red and green light,
can you verify if you have the red or green light on
while the ignition is on or not?

looking at the parts breakdown, i don't see
any fuses except for the one for the fuel
pump, which you say is working.

........

You can see the fuses when you remove the right side panel which you most likely do when cleaning the dust/debris from the radiator screens and side screens.

Be sure the PTO switch didn't get pulled out by accident. And double check the battery cable connections.

Let us know how the checks are coming out. We can likely get more involved with some help.

Thanks guys, I found all the stuff on the right side just like you said, and the diagnostic sequence in the Service Manual started making more sense.

It's the PTO switch. Put some alligator clips on the incoming and outgoing lines and it started fine. Now, to hunt down the part number for that switch.

Ever pulled one of those out of the dash? Access is limited but not impossible. Looks like two spring detents on the sides of the switch, but by feel I can't get them to compress. It might be easier once I get the new switch and can study it.

The switch number is AM127393, for the later serial numbers. 070000 +

It does snap into place as you have determined.

Looks like AM118802 (sub for AM116235) for earlier serial numbers below 070000

Found those in jdparts that you can get to as well (free registration)

Thanks, that confirms what I found. Local dealer has it in stock and is holding it for me to pick up in the morning.

Yep, Use JDParts all the time. Great resource.

I think the whole switch assy pulls out of the dash,
then unplug the wire, and plug wire into new one and
push back into the dash. I think the retainers are just
plastic compression springs on the side of the switch,
or something like that

(i changed my pto switch also, but that was
when the pto wouldn't come back on while hot,
and actually the circuit board on the keyswitch was
what was going bad)

if the pto switch was bad, wouldn't it cause
a problem engaging the PTO, unless it was
stuck in "on", then i would think you would get
an indicator on the dash, no?

Didn't test PTO function, but it was acting a little funky toward the end of mowing season.
