Tires JD 455 Tire question

Ok guys- Since you guys know a lot more about Deere parts than me and the Deere Corp here we go. I have a 1994 JD 455 and was wondering how much tires and rims cost? I have stock turf tires (26x12-12) with stock rims. I was told the tires (turf) go for around $64 each but what about rims? Is the price the "typical" price. High?

I ask because I think that the 200 lbs in each rear tire (for front loader) will be too much weight for mowing? Any comments about the weight issue when mowing? Does it mat the grass a lot or am a just being to picky.

Don't know about JD, but Kubota seems to have different prices depending on how it's ordered. I wanted an extra set of tires and wheels for my BX (just a tad bigger than a JD455, or maybe the same size?) Was quoted a bunch of prices, $900, $700, $500, then ended up at $300 if they were ordered, not through the parts department, but through the "whole goods" department, which is what the tractor salesman order buckets etc. through.

Might be worth checking. Also check to see if you can use NH rims or Kubota rims and tires, if there is an equivalent size, bolt pattern etc, you might be able to get other options, oh, don't forget to figure the cost of a can of factory paint, unless you want all your other tractor ownin' neighbors snickering at the blue or orange wheels on your <font color=green>JOHN DEERE </font color=green>

Mike: I've got a JD 425 about the same age as yours that I use for mowing. Last year I purchased a TC-33 w/ loader and backhoe, opting to keep the garden tractor for the mowing. I've got Industrial tires on the TC and after tooling around all over my lawn in the TC (always with the loader on, frequently with the backhoe), I'm certain that I could use the TC for mowing if I wanted. So . . . I can't imagine that the weight in the JD's turf tires will bother your lawn - I'm certain it wouldn't mine.

I don't think 400 lbs. total will change the tire foot print much unless you get into some real soggy areas. For our Kubota B7100, the base weight is around 1,100 lbs (not including tires or fluids). I carry an extra 200 lbs. in rear wheel weights now year round and it doesn't seem to affect anything other than it provides a whole lot better traction. I also plan to put at least two suitcase weights on the front and leave them there, probably around 160-180 lbs.

I had a similar situation when I got my '78 Kubota B6100D. With the Ag tires it was too narrow and "tippy" so I wanted to put wider tires on it.
I found, like Del did that you don't want to go thru the parts department. Work with the sales guys. They had a whole bunch of new and almost new tires on rims "in the back" that were taken off tractors and swapped around to make up what the customer wanted when the bought a tractor.
I ended up paying about $225 for a set of two almost new turf tires/rims that fit my tractor. The quote for new R4s thru the parts department was $300 EACH!

Well guys- I bought the new rims and new tires from JD. The prices varied a real lot. So after doing some homework the best dealers for the tires were KOHEL POWER EQUIPMENT in CAMERON ,WISCONSIN and once again the wonderful R. N. Johnson, Inc. in NH. They were approx $350 for both items while everyone wanted from $405.00 to $538!!!! These two dealers should be checked out for JD parts as issue #1.
