the dealer told me it could not be done. i proved him wrong!
the stock 4 pointed pads just werent cutting the mustard in the dirt, and were horrible in asphalt. since i do driveway repair, grip on asphalt is very important. not to mention the 4 pointers scratch the heck out of the asphalt i want to keep half the time.
i ordered the stock JD pads for the 47 BH (fits 47 & 48). the pin is a 3/4 on the 47 pads, and 5/8 on the stock 46 pads. i took the pads to my local machine shop, and had him press in 4 bushings, so the 5/8 pin could be used in the bigger pads.
on the 46 backhoe, where the stock pin goes through, there is a spacer welded on each side of the outrigger. i just ground this spacer off so the bigger, narrower 47 pads slid on, stuck the pin in, bolted on the new rubber pads, and she was all done.
to put the stock 46 BH pads back on, all you would have to do is put some washers in there to take up the space leftover from cutting the spacers off.
the best part is, the machine shop didnt charge me a cent for the bushings. his driveway had washed out in one area, and he asked if i could push the stones back in with my tractor. seat time? HECK YEAH! we bartered the deal, and i will be going back in the spring to clean up the mess from the snowplow. $$$$ /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
to anyone tired of sinking into the mud with your 46 backhoe pads, i HIGHLY recommend this swap. it is MUCH easier to dig now that i dont slide all over the place! also, the 47 pads can be flipped over to the pointed side if the rubber doesnt work out for you. enjoy! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
