hosejockey2002,
If your dad is truly having that hard of a time deciding between the two tractors, then it is time for him to move on to checking out the dealers. The dealer and his attitude as well as his parts dept and shop may be what is needed to sway your dad. No tractor is worth anything with out a GOOD dealer. I would now concentrate on the those things.

With all these emotions running wild, they should rename the forum to TractorBiasNet.com. Objective opinions are become alot more scarce, especially now that Kioti has its own major thread.

No matter what tractor site I go to, there are always a number of people that are completely tractor bias.
I' ve seen it here many, many times before Kioti had its own site and I see it after.
I don't see how ANYONE can make the claim there tractor brand is superior to all others if they have never used and/or owned all of the differant brands.
My opinion, sorry for the rant.

I don't think any of us can say more than what you stated /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I take it that your dad finds either of these machines acceptable. They are both excellent equipment from highly reputable manufacturers. Each does the basic work they are designed for, will last for many years and hold their value.

Declaring one to be better than the other is like saying Ford is better than Chevy... it's more a matter of preference than substance. There may be some features of one that your dad might like better, but it often comes down to which dealer you think will work with you the best during and after the sale. Just for the record, when I got down to that point 2 yrs ago, I bought the orange brand, but I also have green equipment as well.

I certainly don't feel as though my tractor brand is superior to all others, but I do feel it is a great tractor at a great price after nearly 1 year of sitting in all kinds. I've had Deere, it was good, but now out of my league in price. I've used Kubota and it was nice, but lighter in my class and more expensive. I've used my cousin's New Holland and found it to be very capable, but again, more money than my Kioti. The Mahindra dealer just missed out on a sale because of his attitude, and the Massey Dealer just acted as though I was invisible. I think what some think is "tractor bias" may be confused with nothing more than great enthusiasm for one's own tractor. The one you buy is the one you like as a rule. I've never seen more tractor loyalty to any brand more than Deere, but all of them have their problems, and most of them are good tractors. John

I currently have 3 tractors; green orange and blue.

Blue for 20 years, as reliable as a claw hammer.

Green and Orange are Newer.

I like the Green as it is so different from the Orange and
vice versa.

Orange is dedicated TLB, Green is for cleaning up or rather
finishing the ground after digging up 300 year old stumps
with Orange.

Blue dealer long gone, I survived 20 years without a local
dealer. Orange dealer complete goofs, secretary finally told
me when there is a problem co-owner hopes it will "go away"
(her words). This was to explain unanswered faxes and months
of delays. Would have rather had the guy say it to my face
then waste my time for months and months. DUH

In it's capacity as a lighter duty tractor I love the JD,
comfortable as an old pair of slippers from the get-go. I
would be hesitant to get a bigger one. Maybe the loaders
don't tear themselves up but look at how the loader is
mounted on the JD versus the Kubota. Engineering can be
marvelous but only 4 bolts? They seem to be holding up but
for real work I would wince before sticking one of the
JD loaders into a rocky dirt pile.

HD bucket on the JD is really a "normal" bucket or "med duty" At very least get the add-on cutting edge.

If you want do any loader/backhoe work I would recommend only 4 tractors.
Kubota B21, L35, L48 or JD110. The tractors that don't already
come with a loader/backhoe on them from the factory will of course
work, but I will never go back to a pieced together unit.

Of course I'm paying for that decision by permantly keeping
2 tractors so I've always got 3pt tractor AND a TLB 10
times a day. JD tractor has HST and maneuverable as a
wheelbarrow. Kubota has GST clutchless shifter and is
designed for knocking houses of their foundations.

Get both on loan for four hours at his place or pay to rent
them, it's too big of a decision to make sitting on one or
driving around the dealer lot. They are TOO different and
you will not know this until you've got a few hours of seat
time on each on YOUR land.

As to other brands, your dad probably knows that everyone
knows what a JD or Kubota or Ford and knows he won't have
to hear "What's That????" if he wants to sell it later.

We did a rather lengthy demo with Kubota the other day. Very impressive, the loader and backhoe were very stout, with a massive subframe running from front to back. The Kubota backhoe is very easy to detach. The salesman was a Kubota tech for three years and was very knowledgeable about his product. We're going to have a similar demo at the John Deere dealer next weekend. My dad's had a JD 850 for a long time and has had nothing but good experiences with it, but he was sure impressed with the Kubota. It could go either way..... Sorry KiotiJohn, Kioti still doesn't have a tractor in this league, and if they did there would be none to look at around here. On the other hand, I would be all over the CK20 if I had the cash.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
