Well the gods have smiled upon me..While walking around our pond last night I was talking with the wife about some pond maintenence that needs to be done. I told her that we need to get a backhoe out here and doe the work. She promptly asked why I didnt go ahead and buy a backhoe for our 4300. I almost fainted but thought I would check into it.Called the dealer and after getting his price, he mentioned that $987 of the cost was for the mounting brackets.Since my wife works fo a metal fabrication place i asked the dealer if he thought that they could be fabricated. He said he had the parts in stock and would let me use them for a pattern. Now comes my question to you tbner's. Does anyone think there would be a problem making the brackets . Would there have to be some kind of special steel to build these? I hate to sound cheap but almost a thousand dollars for what appears to be 4 pieces of metal seems ridiciulas. If anyone has any ideas or comments, please let me know

I don't know where your dealer is getting his pricing from. The JD configurator shows the mounting brackets for the 48 hoe on a 4300-4400 as part number BM19564, cost $294.00. I wonder if he is including the cost of the adapter frame for the hoe? The 48 hoe can be setup with three different adapter frames in order to connect it to the 43-4400, the 45-4700, or the 5105-5205 tractors. If this is the case there are alot more parts involved than just the mounting plates on the tractor.

I’m one of those Kubota guys so I can’t say anything about the JD mounting plates. I will say that a good friend of mine is in the metal manufacturing business and their company makes some of the parts for the Kubota backhoes. If it turns out that the plates are what your dealer thinks they are and will let you use one as a template, I don’t see any reason your wife’s company can’t make them.

I would double check with the dealer: does this include installation and setup? What about the "Power Beyond" that is required? If you install yourself, what happens to warranty?

I have 48 hoe, GREAT UNIT!! You will not be sorry!

I agree I think the $1k price isn't right. It probably would void the warranty as well if you didn't use the original JD equipment that was meant for the hoe. If you're going to do it do it right. Talk to the guys as www.midlawns.com. They know what they are talking about and give excellent prices as well.
