JD 5065M newbie with cold weather start problems - advice needed.

Update:

Tonight was a bit warmer (+9F) and I was able with repeated tries to start and successfully operate the tractor for an hour or so. The battery was dead and needed a good charge so it will sit on the charger overnight. Obviously, there is no proving or disproving any of our theories at this point. Warmer weather is yet ahead so I will report back on what I have found.

The only therapy waas to add some Power Service additive with Cetane boost to the fuel tank at the appropriate concentration.

Consider pulling the fuel filter and replacing with a new one.

Consider parking near an electrical outlet. That would give many more options.

Do you have an inlet air heater or glow plugs?

The tractor is parked 3 feet from an electrical outlet. I have glow plugs, but no inlet air heater.

Tractor ran last night with only a slight difficulty getting it started in 19 degree air. Battery is dying and won't take 24 hours worth of 10 amp 12 volt charge. I find this odd because the tractor is only 18 mos. old. I will try to pull the battery to have it tested this weekend at a battery retailer near me.
