JD 5083e Tuning

This is the information I am trying to find out. The beauty of this tractor is its simplicity. Not much electronics.

Agreed.
I have the older model 5520 with the same engine and love it. Bullet proof engine and bullet proof tractor.
Mine has a turbo and when doing tillage at full RPM it sure does love the fuel.

Turbo boost is a function of impeller rpm's, vane pitch, and diameter - not fuel. Some turbo's have a fixed vane pitch and other's have a variable pitch (and some have 2 impeller's - Ford, etc).

Variable pitch impeller turbo's are electronically (computer) controlled and therefore can be adjusted with a "chip".

I don't know what turbo the JD 5083E has or if the turbo is the same on all the series. If they are the same turbo - then adjusting the pump and injector's (may have to swap out these for the 93 or 101's) should get you where you want to go..

I know all about variable geometry turbos and I also know that my early 2000 fords did not have them and after a chip they would produce way more boost. More fuel equals more heat and exhaust which then drives the turbo faster creating more boost. I just want more fuel without damaging the engine whether by isolated injector spray on the pistons or simply overheating. A chip as far as I know controls fuel or timing or both. Thats why some will stack chips on trucks to advance timing and increase fuel. In my experience with trucks they can be tuned moderately and basically come alive.

+1 Also, if applicable, you may look into adjusting what boost level (psi) the wastegate opens. As indicated by the Nebraska tests, just a few pounds can make a big difference.

You will need more fuel and more boost. Whatever controls the wastegate is what determines max boost no matter how much fuel you can get it to burn. The wastegate will dump off excess pressure.

I say again that my guess involves the ECU. I would also offer that JD would make it kind of difficult to "upgrade" the tractor with a few hundred dollars while the model difference in price is thousands more. They want you to buy the 5101 if you want the power.

Somebody in the aftermarket will have to spend some money to figure things out and create a replacement ECU and tell you how to pump up the fuel delivery. The problem is, there aren't enough of these to make it lucrative yet. Maybe I'm wrong and there is some company doing it. I just haven't researched it yet.

You have probably summed it up, but we're gonna try.

Trade up to the M series with common rail injection system that can be easily tuned. No, I haven't messed with it, too busy doing other things. If something does come along I'll sure bite.

I have a 5093e and want to turn up power on it. If you find anything add a post. I will do the same. Thanks for reply.
