Thanks for the reply Ky Gun Geek, I have yet another update and some musings.
Sent the tractor back in for misc. (the same) repairs, but to a different location (same dealer, they have 50+ locations and are our only option). Thought I would give another location the chance to look at the same set of issues. Different location, same result.
They blamed the tires on the ride (factory tires).
They said the engine "lugging" was normal (it didn't start until there were nearly 400 hours on the tractor).
The had no explanation for the highly annoying screech that the hydraulics make at certain RPM's, and so offered no solution or anything to try other than seeing if a detent was stuck in the mid-valve. It wasn't.
They did fix the 540e, which would not engage, and the AC fan switch which would only blow on high.
Lastly (unbelievably), I asked that a salesman contact me about trading up to another tractor (not an E). I included a link to a tractor from their web site that is in their company inventory and asked to have that tractor quoted. That was a week ago and I have not heard from them yet.
Having said all that, I am beginning to believe I expected too much from what is essentially an entry level cab tractor (reliability and comfort), and I suppose from the dealer as well.
