JD 5103, 5203, 5303

Anybody have one of these tractors yet? I'm thinking of getting one as another all-around tractor for the ranch. Looks like a really good basic unit. I can get one with a 521 loader, 2 SCV's, telescoping draft links, and the upgraded seat for $16,400.

I saw these at KC-Canary's open house this past March. I was told by one of KC's technicians that they are very basic utility tractors with very few bells and whistles. They are completely built in India. They look like good value for the money.

Very few bells and whistles is right Bob. Mostly I need this tractor on my other place to mow pastures, spray, and move round bales. For $16,400 I didn't see how I could go wrong, esp. with the 0% interest for 36 months.

I agree; don't know anything about those models, but just went to Deere's web site to read a bit about them and that sounds like a very good deal.

If this is the Turbo PowerTech 179, JD 5303 unit... with all the above, including loader for $16.4K...

But, if it's the 5203... then ask them how much more to upgrade to MFWD with say the 5205 unit...?

Yes this is the 5303 model. I was thinking of going up to the 5205 but it was over $20k for that model and around $25k with the mfwd. For what I was going to do I thought this little unit would really fit the bill.

Dealer called on my way out from the office and wanted to know what I was thinking. I asked about a firm price on the 5205. The 5205 with loader and equipped just like the 5303 would be $18,860. With MFWD add $3850. What do you think would be a better deal or rather tractor? Mostly what I need to do with it is run the square baler and backup tractor for the mower conditioner. Besides that spraying, mowing, and moving round bales. Thanks for your help.

Hi Richard,

A 55 PTO hp, Turbo, 2-wd, with decent hydraulics, including loader and SCV's, I feel for $16.4 is excellent VALUE! It's gonna do everything you ask from it... (besides that it's painted JD green, with a JD logo and you know you'll get most of your money back...down the road- how can ya go wrong? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Only one downside, would be the collar shift 9/3 tranny... you won't be doing lots of forward/reverse loader work with that setup... Try it out and see how it feels... I really don't see how you can go wrong with a brand spanky new unit... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(The difference of $6300 more for less hp and MFWD wouldn't be enough to twist my arm for the 5205... Now if he rolled the 5205 back to an even $20k w/loader and MFWD... then I'd consider the lesser hp)
