I've dug up plenty of stuff on the net about the fuel shutoff circuit blowing fuses, the cold-start advance killing the fuse, etc.: I did have a bad cold-start sensor on it, I unplugged it and it ran fine for about a week. Now, I've got another little problem: the thing won't shut off. I haven't gotten any voltage on what I believe is the plug for the fuel-shutoff solenoid connection. It did have a couple of episodes of not shutting off without a couple of "cycles" of the key switch over the last few days. Now I've got to just get on it and stall the thing to kill it. Is that solenoid hot-to stop or hot-to-run?

The fuel solenoid is hot to run. I would say the problem is in the key switch.

Sounds like you know how to use a volt meter. I suggest you see if you have voltage at the fuel solenoid atop the injection pump, when this happens. If yes, pull the fuse for the fuel solenoid. Since you had the problem with the cold-start advance, you already know which fuse it is.

If it's hot to run, I probably don't have a key switch problem; I pulled the switch completely off its connector and it was still running. Starting to sound like the solenoid spool is stuck or something.

Looking at JDparts your injection pump looks like mine and the fuel solenoid is inside the pump.

Since you have a way to stop the engine, before taking the pump off I would run some fuel conditioner through the fuel system and hope that there is just some junk in the pump that is the problem. I have been happy with the products from JD, but others may know of products that would do a better job.

If you decided to take of the pump looking at selectmanuals.com it appears CTM125 is the manual for the engine. I have in the past found a copy of it on the web.

Good call (crosses fingers)... I put some injector cleaner/fuel conditioner in the tank late this afternoon, pulled a disc for about thirty minutes until I ran out of daylight, and lo and behold the thing shut off... Twice... Sounds like that solenoid spool may have been the culprit, just hope it holds up: I'll keep up the conditioner/cleaner for a few tanks and see where we go.
